Last month I rescued a baby dove from my backyard. I have raised this bird by hand. You can read about it here http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/f20/nest-fell-out-of-tree-7-hours-ago-40748.html. As you can read, I have tried to release this bird more than once and it keeps coming back to me hungry and thirsty. I have decided to keep him/her.I am now building an aviary outside and am looking for a companion for this bird. Can anyone tell me where I can get another spotted dove, or what bird will make a good companion for him/her? I just found this forum....wish I had of found it earlier. Thanks in advance. Simone
Gidday Simone, can you please clarify if its a Crested pidgeon or Spotted Turtledove.
Thanks.
Hi, yes, a Spotted Turtle Dove. Sorry, should have mentioned that.
Gidday Simone, no worries at all ,you did actually mention it but when I read the posts they mentioned Crested Pidgeons so I was a bit confused, anyway its all good.
You will find that most pet shops are able to get their hands on domestic doves with relative ease and they are reasonably priced.
Most of the larger doves will mix together with relative ease however I don't recomend cross breeding of species if your thinking of breeding.
You will find that your dove will settle in nicely.
Hope this helps.
Great thanks so much. We have a bird pet shop down the road, I will enquire there. Many thanks - Simone
No worries Simone, if you need any more help with anything yell out.
I understand that a feather [if examnined] can determine the sex....is anyone aware of this as I would not mind finding out as I dont wish to breed/cross breed at all.
I see no reason why not although it would be an expensive excercise I would imagine.
Simone, if you are in Sydney, send me a message.
