It's Summer Survey time - MORE prizes up for grabs!

Birds are singing in the bright summer sun, head outdoors for some surveying fun! Conduct your Birds in Backyards Summer Survey on Birdata this December 2018 & January 2019.

Getting started is easy. If you don't have a Birdata account, sign up for one today. Then read the instructions or watch the video.

If you've submitted your survey via the Birdata app, please make sure to log in on the web version and complete your site details. You'll only have to do this once (unless you change anything in your site). A full version of the Birds in Backyards survey on the Birdata app is on it's way early 2019.

We are so excited to be offering up a major prize for 2019! 

Starting this Summer, if you complete at least one survey per season (that’s Summer 2018/19, Autumn 2019, Winter 2019 & Spring 2019) you will go into the draw to win a fabulous custom flock by the talented crew at Eggpicnic (RRP AUD$275). It’ll be hard not to keep this prize all to ourselves!

Eggpicnic is an illustration and design studio set up by birdwatchers and designers, Camila De Gregorio and Christopher Macaluso. The unique partnership produces fine art prints and toys to raise funds and awareness about wildlife conservation. Check out their fabulous work for yourselves!

Also starting this Summer, we’ll have great prizes for surveyors who participate and complete our seasonal challenges. Each quarter, three lucky people will be chosen at random who have completed the following challenges within the Birds in Backyards surveys on Birdata:

• Challenge #1 Summer Survey (December 2018 & January 2019): Most number of surveys completed
• Challenge #2 Autumn Survey (March & April 2019): Most number of sites surveyed
• Challange #3 Winter Survey (June & July 2019): New surveyor (refer a friend and both win!)
• Challenge #4 Spring Survey (September & October 2019): Positive change(s) to your site

Prize packs each survey include a set of delightfully backyard-themed BirdLife Australia bird pins, a Birds in Backyard fridge magnet, and a BirdLife Australia bird ID booklet.

Competition Rules (yep, we have to have ‘em to be fair, sorry!)

1. All surveys must be completed within the Birds in Backyards surveys on Birdata
2. Surveys must be submitted from a single surveyor/Birdata account holder
3. Surveys are only counted within each survey period
4. For the Major Challenge, at least one survey in each season must be completed from a single Birdata account
5. For Challenge #1, surveys can be from multiple sites
6. For Challenge #2, most number of sites surveyed must be from a single surveyor/Birdata account holder
7. For Challenge #3, participant must be a new surveyor who has not previously submitted a Birds in Backyards survey on Birdata, existing Birdata user who has submitted other surveys allowed (e.g. General Birdata survey, Shorebirds 2020, etc), winners will be drawn at random from participants who have completed the challenge
8. For Challenge #4, the detail must be recorded in the ‘site details’ of your Birds in Backyards survey and be a positive change to your survey site (e.g. installed a nest box, planted new tree, etc)
9. Birds in Backyards reserves the right to change the conditions of these competitions at any time
