My favourite bird, only seen them once in a zoo unfortunately. Araminta they are tail streamers, I'll look in a few books and on the net and see if I can find a purpose or use for them. Great shots!
The male's tail spines are significantly larger than the female's, Araminta. This one's a female, I'd say. I recall seeing a flock of about 200 gathering at the end of February for their northerly migration. Spectacular!
