Pretty Ordinary

Pretty ordinary image shot yesterday at Botanic Gardens with a shorter lens. I found no match for it in my bird book.

Hi Tark

It is a female Blackbird.
Male (only) is black with bright orange beak.

Cheers
Denis

Thanks Denis. So different to the male that I would never have suspected.

Keep shooting - you will learn about birds while you are waiting for your camera to come back

I don't think they are too ordinary at all Tark - Nice shots of Mrs B. I have a pair in my yard and they just nuisances.
Forever digging and making a mess. However they seem to keep to themselves and don't cause trouble with the other birds.

Hey Tark, I made the same mistake when I posted my 'sharing my Bright trip' pics... I thought the female Blackbird was a Song Thrush, I too couldn't believe the bird was a Blackbird when someone corrected me .... I reckon we have a good case for false representation against her.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Birdgirl, I have my camera sis, it was the AF on my birding lens that carked it and it was only that that has been returned under warranty. Well you are right about using the down time to learn what I can about birds, although I am no brighter now than when I was dunce of my class at school!
.
Lyn, I actually love blackbirds, I know they make a mess, they dig up our garden too. Last year a pair made a nest in thick shrubbery in the corner of our garden and I really developed a close affinity for them. They are nesting there again this year.
.
heva1, Yeah mate, what threw me was that the above is a deep chocolate colour, not black at all. Now what gets me is that the only difference betweeen a M & F galah is their eye colour as I learnt from sis the other day; they are otherwise identical, at least to me. Whereas the Fem. BB bears no resemblance to the Male at all.

I can't believe that you love Blackbirds Tark!
If I can catch my two I will ship them to you. Tasmania is almost far enough away from me for them.

Is your colour pretty close? My female bird is a duller shade of light brown. Will try and get a pic but they are pretty cunning.

Hi Lyn, I do love blackbirds, I think they're beautiful. You may not have seen my post made just a few days before you joined BiBY. Take a look and tell me if I'm mistaken!

The only difference between a weed and a wildflower is prevalence.

Lyn - sorry, the colour is as the camera saw it and close enough I think.
