I have no idea what type of Duck this is. It was spotted at Coolart wetlands where a number of freckled ducks have been sighted lately but in this photo the duck doesn't seem to fit the description of a freckled duck. Any ideas?

I'm not an expert at all - judging by its bill could it be an immature Blue-billed Duck maybe?
platypus
Very strange. Could well be some hybrid. the slight green tinge, the chestnut colouring on the wing as well as the breast/neck area look suspiciously like a Chestnut Teal's fingerprints. I think it's a hybrid of Chestnut Teal and a XXXXXXXX who knows?
Whatever he is, he's a cutie. I've noticed some black ducks on our waterways lately. Haven't been able to get close enough to see if any markings.

I looked at all my duck photos, I was thinking like Akos, Blue-billed Ducks don't have the green feathers, looking at the eye, it could be shut, and that makes it look white, but the Chestnut Teal's eye is red. Did you see the eye? Were there any Chestnut Teals? We go to Coolart , but don't think I have seen any there?
here is one of my Chestnut Teals for you

Sorry, your photo of the "Duck-Teal" is fantastic.

Thanks everyone, I think the Chestnut Teal hybrid may be right, particularly looking at its beak. The duck must have been resting because in all of the photos its eyes are nearly closed.
Also, there have been quite a few chestnut teals at Coolart lately but this bird was on its own.
HiWampy, today we went to Coolart, (to find the Tawny Frogmouths and =your duck), I think we faund your duck) There was only one like it, I took one photo from a distance, was that the one??
It has more frackles though.

Hi Araminta,
Your duck looks like a Chestnut Teal from this angle - the red eye and chestnut speckled breast. Hope you had a good day and found the Tawnies, I usually ask the ranger where they were last sighted.
That's what your's was crossed with ,I think? We talked to Bruce , who was on duty today for a long time, normally on a Sunday it's Brian. We didn't find the Tawnies in the trees they are nomally found. He was a bit worried, he hadn't seen them for two days.

I agree, my duck definitely has the bill of a teal and a few bits of chestnut on its breast so one of its parents must have been a chestnut teal. The tawnies will turn up somewhere, keep looking.
