Taggety trip

I visited a friend in Taggerty Victoria last weekend and came across these wonderful birds:

Gang Gang having a drink:

Kooka:

King Parrot:

Tassie

Thanks for posting those Missmercy, I love the Gang Gang shot I have not seen one of those since I was a kid growing up in the A.C.T

Thanks, we were just driving up my friends driveway and the Gang Gang was just sitting there on the side of the road - absolutely wonderful. I've only seen them once before about ten years ago at Cape Conran in Gippsland so I was very pleased to spot this one on the weekend.

Hi missmercy, I live in Victoria (Dandenongs) but have never seen a Gang Gang. Where is Taggerty? Great shots. Thanks.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Tey're great shots MM. I love the reds on the cockatoo and parrot.
.
Hev get your partner to fly you to Taggerty. Nice grass strip, beautiful scenery and G-g Cockatoos.

Cheers,

George

well George, I might just do that! He is always on the lookout for landing areas which is a bit scary when he's driving and looking at fields rather than the road!

Hi Heva1, Taggerty is pretty much central northern Victoria up near Marysville which is about 20 minutes away by car. My friend was really fortunate that the fires didn't cause too much damage to their property (they lost their grape crop from smoke damage) considering they had fire surrounding them on that terrible weekend in February.

There is a wonderful array of wildlife in this area, even since the fires my friend has seen Lyrebirds - she was hoping to spot one for me last weekend but they were not to been seen unfortunately.

Hi Missmercy, yes I googled it and found it was on the Maroondah highway past Marysville and Buxton, certainly an easy drive from where I am in the Dandenongs.
I did wonder about how the fires had affected the area when I saw it was beyond the Marysville area. We saw lots of burnt out areas and bunches of flowers pinned to blackened trees along the road on our way to Bright, it brings tears to my eyes thinking about the loss of loved ones that so many people experienced.

Should be quite a nice drive for you from the Dandenongs - I'm in the inner city, so it takes a while to get out of town traffic before you hit the beauty of the hills. The hardest leg, and the most spectacular is from Healesville to Narbethong through the Black Spur - when I returned to Melbourne on Sunday it was dark and it's quite a curvy drive, I recommend you do that drive in daylight unless you have nerves of steel!

We were in Marysville the weekend before (husbands a muso and was playing at a benefit) and the town is so destroyed, there are only a few buildings (ironically the bakery) still standing in the main street. I'd heard that Marysville was flattened, but to actually see it was really shocking.
