I'm lucky enough to have more than one Bassian Thrush now, I was worried for some time, because unfortunately "I killed one with the house", as my son says. My favourite bird that has been around the house for years, flew into the window and was dead on impact. There was a pair though, and they had two young. They are smarter I hope, they just love the horse's poo pile more than hang around the house. Hope they stay away, houses can be dangerous for birds. Plus there are lots of bugs in the poo.
Have a look how well those birds are camouflaged.
Forgot to ask, how can I tell the difference between the sexes? If you have a close look at the markings of those two, you can see that these are two different birds. I have observed them for so long now, I can tell three of them apart, they have all slightly different patterns.

I don't think you can tell the difference, there appears to be no sexual dimorphism in this species.
BeautifulM-L.... I love these birds but have never seen one.... their markings are so intricate

They were born to blend in with poo!!
At least you still have a pair that hangs around.
Cheers, Owen.
Hope you close the blinds or curtains on one side of the house so you don't lose these little beauties, Nice photos yet again M-L and good to see you got your computer sorted.

many years ago I used to breed poultry and ...........................................
any sense of deja vu?

Beautiful shots, thanks for sharing them and the story. You've done very well to get such sharp images on that sort of background. I always struggle when small to medium sized birds are on the ground, I never seem to get great focus or sharpness. Any secrets you care to share?!!
Cheers,
Scott.
They have really beautiful markings don't they? Smear something on the windows so they don't fly into them (not the poo, that will attract them)
