This morning I took my camera on my walk. I looked for something new and exciting, but mostly found ... ducks! I did find one bird I couldn't identify and I couldn't get a clear shot either. There were three of them and they behaved like juveniles
Miscellaneous ducks

Male wood duck (I didn't know about the green)

Nice photos Birdgirl, love the ducks! I think your mystery bird is a grey-crowned babbler, I saw a few when we were up in Dubbo last year, hope you heard their song, it's wonderful.
Awesome photos!! Ducks are cool!!! ^_^
Thanks amateur - I'm sure that's it. They had an eye stripe that got wider past the eye. They were chattering away like juveniles.
Good to see you still here. I hope your study is going well and I hope you get to take a few photos now and then
Your Mystery bird could be a grey crowned babbler, mostly seen in small groups.
Saw the 3 again this morning, but didn't have my camera. I'm sure that is what they are
G'Day Birdgirl,
Yer I'm sure also, they build a ball shape nest out of sticks about the size of a football.
I have about 9 birds at Kapooka near Wagga Wagga, and have found 1 family may have upto 5 nests! and they chatter alot.
Thier common name is Yahoo bird.
eautiful crisp shots Birdgirl, I love the Chestnut Teal as I don't see them here.
Your mystery bird is the Grey crowned Babbler, can I ask where you saw them plz as although this bird is reported as common I have only seen it around Rockhampton,Emerald Dingo and surrounding area's but I have not seen it much at all where as 15 yrs ago it was a bird I saw all the time.
Hope you don't mind, here is a picture of a Babbler at Duaringa QLD.
Hi Tassie good to see you on here again. Don't forget to drop in and comment on my posts, even if you are too busy to take your own pics.
I have seen a group of 3 grey-crowned babblers twice at Somerset Park around the ponds (in 2 different sites but 3 each time). Last time I could have had some great close shots if I had had my camera. Isn't it always the way?
Somerset Park is a fairly new development near Beresfield, which you know.
Nice shots Birdgirl.
I will most definately comment on your shots and speaking of that Birdgirl I miss your Rosella updates, I used to enjoy the pics from your backyard, it was like a huge natural aviary.
Beresfield....I was there two weeks ago having a big brekky on my way back from Nowra, can,t say I enjoyed coming back through Sydney at 8am in the morning, every set of traffic lights was on a hill...lol.
