In late 2008 a pair of these inland beauties turned up near the Sydney CBD. I skipped uni classes one afternoon to find and photograph them. The male is the more colorful one.

Beautiful Akos! There is something about little red birds...they just stand out and look beautiful

Yeah pretty birds but I don't like how my Nikon ( and i think most DSLRs have this issue) captures red colour. Hard to capture detail and always seems over saturated. Or maybe its just me :)

I was born to live and I live to die.

No ALex not just you.... I have the same trouble. I am sure there is something either on camera or in PP that you can do but as I don't see many red birds I haven' t bothered to investigate.

You can desaturate the reds by applying a selective color adjustment then checking the color histogram in Photoshop to see the reds are within range and not blown. A bit of practice, but easy afterwards.

akos they are unbelievably beautiful birds. ripper shots and I would skip class any day to see them. Even better to see them out of their range near the city.

Cheers, Owen.
