Hey all, i'm an international student living in toowomba. just now i see one bird (which i was able to identify as grass owl)being attacked by a lot of Pied Currawong and some bird that looks somewhat like a raven. I try to help but there are too many currawong and raven that start attacking me...
can someone provide a number i can call or something in case it is happen again ? i think they are still somewhere around the area. and since grass owl is a rare animal i think i should at least relay this to someone...
Hi Xynder,
Try calling Wires on 1300 094 737. Best not to handle the bird if you're not familiar with doing so, as both you and the bird may get hurt. But keep an eye on it until a Wires rescuer can come and collect the bird.
If it is sitting in the tree and being harassed by other birds there is nothing anyone can or should do. This is normal behaviour, magpies and noisy miners regularly harass birds of prey. Unless the owl is on the ground injured and can not fly, you should leave them to their natural behaviour.
