hello members im new to the site Name is Denven :) howdy, just wondering if there are any rescue or rehabilitation programs going on in the Perth, joondalup metro area? i would love to get involved, even if it comes down to planting trees?

nathan you dont happen to have an aviary in your backyard and some hedges out the front cut into shapes of birds do you or used to?

arh ok cool. just thought i'ld take a guess, i saw a different parrot in edgewater the other day, only got a quick look as it flew off, have no idea what it was. its killing me

Denven,my guess is that its a immature Red-capped parrot,as i think the only others are Rainbow Lorikeets and 28's(of that size group)
yeh but in all my time there i've never ever seen a red cap in that region i think they seem to live more south where it is slightly cooler and less populated with people, unless it was a parrot that got out of some ones house/cage. but i've been looking ever since.
oh and i saw three paires of caraby's today at the reserve just off edgewater drive :) didn't manage to get photos but i hope i do soon

it does. saw a flock near tamala park today feeding on banksia's and digging around in the ground, i got some photos but there not that good because every time i got close the one keeping look out would warn the others, the local pine trees in my area are starting to fruit so they will be there soon and i'll be able to get some good shots. i'll try put the pics up i got today

The flock in the last photo must be very encouraging. If they are making a comeback do you have any ideas why?

when i was at my mates house a few weeks ago,i saw and heard a fully mature Red-capped,and i know for sure there was no mistake
recently i have been hearing the exact same call,and whenever i see the bird that's making the call,it looks like a Red-capped,only a bit duller and more grey...
i've also seen at least 4 individuals,so i don't think they escaped
hello woko, i've seen way bigger flocks than this getting around, maybe there numbers are coming back slowly because the amazing Rick Dawson that works for the DEC is helping so save there nesting hollows, and around spring the pine trees are starting to flower. so they offen vist my area. maybe climate change. who knows with out investigating! aslong as i keep seeing more each day it keeps me happy :)
hey nathan so you saw these red capped parrots in Edgewater?
only the juveniles - the recent ones i sighted have been in Hilltop park,Picnic cove,and Quarry ramble
wow you have a good eye, better than mine it seams, i'll have to keep alook out more often around those areas, i'm always in those areas too. nice
still haven't seen the red capped parrots
i havn't seen or heard them for a few days now,so they might be in a different location
yeah thats what im thinking, the carabys have kind of disappeared too
well i got excited last sunday the 21/10/12 because i heard a strange high pitched whistle in the local park. i thought it was a red capped parrot but after about 20 mins of searching i found it hanging about silently all by its self with no friends in sight. it was a female king parrot that i assume has gotten away from its owners and now lives happily in my park, this was the bird i once got a glimps of but couldn't make out what it was and had been hearing it on and off ever since.
still keeping an eye out for the red capped parrot in Edgewater too, so far not much more than wattle birds, there everywhere

i have seen the same King Parrot,it lived around the corner from me until it escaped
i also have heard and seen the Red-capped,they're around Picnic Cove now i think
hello oh ok that explains it. i tryed getting it to come down with some seeds but it didn't. although it kept looking down at me. i'll start speanding more time in the area around picnic cove so i can sight the red capped, this time i wont forget my binoculars. for the king parrot it now lives in hilltop park.
