...at least, I don't think so! I know I should know it, but my mind's a blank (it's 3 in the morning :)
I look forward to your thoughts and, once again, thanks for your help!

Interesting...
I don't have any idea what it is, but will be interested to find out, if someone else knows.

Yes, the curlew's a definite possibility - it's not a Bush Stone-Curlew, but it may be a Beach Stone-Curlew or Eastern Curlew.

Thanks Tim!
I thought so too - but wasn't able to find recordings of Beach or Eastern Curlews on the web - I'll keep looking.
Also, a bit surprised to hear a curlew in the heart of the city - it's very near the harbour - with shallows that are occasionally exposed as tidal flats, but no real beaches to speak of...
Cheers, Crispin
Where abouts are you located? I sent it to a bird call expert who said it may be a bush stone-curlew (but they usually show more variation in calls). He said a Sooty Owl might be a possibility (but unlikely) - or someone pulling a prank
Thanks all - it's not a prank on my part - I wouldn't be so disrepectful.
And I don't believe it's a prank by someone else. The call is a regular recent occurence that happens in the pre-dawn hours ( it would have to be a dedicated prankster! :)
Holly, the call is right in the heart of the city, overlooking the harbour, near a shoreline with shallows that are occasionally exposed as tidal flats - no real beaches to speak of - but that's why I thought one of the curlews. Would your bird call expert have any recordings of Beach or Eastern Curlews? I haven't had any luck finding any on the web.
Again, thanks for the productive comments.
Cheers, Crispin
Didn't think it was you making it up Crispin :)
Will have a look and see if I can find any more calls for you
after listening to it for the third time,my opinion is that its definitely not a person, mainly due to the sharpness of the notes
i would think it's a Bush Stone Curlew,as they have a wide variation of calls
Yes, you might be right Nathan.
I didn't think it was initially, based on the calls I have heard here in Brissie, but on listening again it's not different enough to justify definitely ruling them out.
Cheers
