love never dies...

When I came back from a nice day out, I went straight to the shrub where the wrens have the nest, to check on them. You will not believe what I saw. My girl flew behind the house, and guess who she was meeting?? Mr "one leg", her first (?) lover. They were flirting and singing, and sitting close together on a branch. Well, it is obviously the same in the bird world, you can never forget your first love?

Here they are secretly meeting behind the house. There is no doubt, this is boy No1, only one leg.

What do you make of that?

(no time to get sharper photos, this was a big surprise to me, so quick action was needed cheeky)

I'm pleased that he has not been forgotten. I think females mate with more than one male to ensure genetic diversity.

You ol' romantic, you.  Yes, I was informed that fairy wrens are rather promiscuous and will even visit neighbouring groups for nookie.  It's nice that they have a bit of a thing though, even if it is only our human way of viewing it.
