Superb Fairywren

I got SF pics recently at Stockton Sandspit, NSW - this bird reminds me of a thread we had some time ago

Are we getting to the bottom of this now Peter? After someone posted similar photos a while ago, I was lucky enough to witness the same behaviour . I noticed there was a his female and another male intruder involved. The posture is very similar to the “rodent run”. So, now we have three people that have seen the same display, it is obviously quite normal. In my situation, I was certain he was defending his female and threatening the intruder . Did you notice any other male or female close by? Or could it have been the start of him doing the “rodent run” and he was distracting from a nest or young? Very interesting Peter, thanks for posting, and well done getting this good photo. I only have a photo of the next stage that came after what it seen in your photo. The bird arced his back and dropped his wings, all part of the display, I think.

I believe that he was distracting me from the nest.

I got a sequence of pics on the ground and then a couple in a tree, I will look at them again when I get back to my unit and post a couple more.
