I like looking at Pink-eared ducks and there were some at Dowse Lagoon, Sandgate, Qld last weekend. Pizzey & Knight guide says 'Feeds in rotating locked pairs, head to tail, ..... rotating companies often spread'. This was the 1st time that I had observed this behaviour, there were 26 birds, with locked pairs seeming to rotate within groups and the groups in the total company. Overcast light rain weather but the PE ducks were at work.
Thanks for that information, I had never noticed it before. (could it be like people say, all cows face north when they ly down? Not where I live.)
I love your photos, you must have been very ckose? But then again I've seen your lens.

I had not seen this before but then this was the biggest company of PE Duck that I have seen; I observed the same behaviour on Sunday; I was about 17 m (Google maps allows that estimate) from the ducks on the wall and I have cropped the pics; 2 more pics from that day; they seem to lean to 1 side when in the water
