I was driving through the Northern Territory, and came across this bird.
Does anyone happen to know what it is?
I couldn't locate it in any of my bird books.
This would be the male. The female is plain brown.

Steve...

I have no idea, you say the female is plain brown, does that mean there was more than one bird? Didn't find it in my books either , did a bit of Google search, but no luck either
I'm sure someone will know
There you go , someone did know

Could also be a spotted bowerbird...

Excellent work Tim. I had no idea, and I had never seen one before. It was while we were tripping around Australia back in 2010. Certainly don't have them on the Sunshine Coast, where I live.
Kind Regards,

That certainly is Great get. Not many of us will get to see one of them. Love the punky pink hairdo.
No problem Steve. I only recognised it because I saw a spotted bowerbird out at Bowra Station last year, which has the same pink tuft on its head.

yes, a Great Bowerbird; here's a pic that I got in March, 13 with BajanAllan, mine does not show the pink nape crest
