I was photographing Welcome Swallows and a small group of these landed at my feet.
The tails don't look right for swallows - are they immature or something else! Not very good with small birds yet!!

Hi Lyn
What you have, is a good shot of a Tree Martin, not often seen on the ground, well done to note it was not a WS and get a picture.

Thank you so much for replying Ed. I knew the tails were wrong for WS but my book said the immature ones do not have a longish tail - then looked at pics of Martins and their fronts appeared to be a lot whiter. Not easy from pics is it?
I am thrilled - my very first sighting and pics of a Martin!
Thank you.
