Finally, Plumed whistling ducks!

Two weeks back my mum sent me a picture of these guys that have been visiting her property in Logan Village (SEQ) asking me to ID them, since then I have been popping over hoping to see them but always have to leave just a tad too early. Today I went over to give her gifts later in the arvo and there they were!

Handsome looking birds!  You have quite a number there

Did you hear any whistling??

yes I did! I first went out the back of the property and only saw Wood ducks then on my way back inside heard them whistle as they were coming in for the land. At first I had no idea what it was I was hearing until I looked back.

Gee they are a good lucking duck. nice photos....good for identifiying them!

Cassie l have whistling ducks fly over at night-time , they fly over just on dark and they whistle as they fly past. like they are talking to each other. endearing.

Are you sure they're Plumed Whistling Ducks? I'm not trying to contradict or insult you at all, but I have Pacific Black Ducks that fly over regularly at night, and their wings often make a whistling sound.

HI Nathan ,

lm no expert , but these ducks audibly 'peep' ie: whistle at each other as they fly ovehead.

l dont know if they are plumed whistling ducks or the other whistling duck , but they certainly 'whistle' , its not the 'whistling' of a wingbeat , l am familiar with that.
