My head hurts

I have been going through my S&D over and over but can not find this bird, looking at the pic i thought it would be easy but for the life of me i can't work out what it is.

It was with a large group of adult and juvenile Red capped Plover at Tuross Heads N.S.W.

Red-necked Stint. Did you notice the sewing machine feeding action that they do?

Thanks guys, i have to say the S&D drawings still don't look right to me. Is there a better book i could get to ID these type of birds as i am planning to visit the coast a lot this year and a lot of the birds there look so similar.

Brandon, no i was actually down there for a fishing trip with my brother and some mates so i was just quickly taking some shots while my brother pumped nippers. I did get alot of shots and 4 new ones though.smiley

Maybe Michael Morcombes Field Guide

I would avoid the Morcombe field guide as the illustrations are a major let-down for identification purposes. Apparently Pizzy + Knight is the best all-round field guide...

I think something that will help you... google "wwf australian shorebirds identification sheet" and download the pdf.

Thanks, Brandon. That sheet is excellent, shame it has limited species though. I will take a look at the P&K.
