Hooded Plover

Fisrt up would like positive ID of this bird though I'm pretty sure it's a Hooded Plover.

Secondly, it has a band on its leg, and I'm unsure if this should be reported as a sighting to the people involved in the banding. There is a lot of information in a PDF regarding nesting and maybe someone on here is involved.If not I will try to contact them directly.

Photo was taken yesterday at Victor Harbor.

Nice find, i agree with Hooded Plover. Maybe send Holly a pm and she might be able to lead you in the right direction to report it.

Hi Rick

At first i was bit alarmed at the size of that banding beacuse it looked way too big to not inconvience the bird - on looking up 'hooded plover banding' i found that it is critically endangered and found these sites - the first gives a phone number to report sightings of the banded birds, although its NSW based

Definietely a Hooded Plover. Beaut birds. Lorne, Bundanoon, NSW.

Hi All, KV was banded as an adult on the 13/11/2013 by Grainne Maguire at Inman River outlet near Victor Harbour on the Fleurieu Peninsula, SA. It is monitored by volunteers through the Beach Nesting Birds Project at BirdLife Australia.
