Bad picture but maybe still ok for an id?

This was taken at Standley Chasm, about 50 k's West of Alice Springs. I've tried to figure out what it is but nothing seems to match perfectly with the banding I see on this bird. Any thoughts? I wish I would have had a better quality camera on this trip but I went for a waterproof one for snorkeling instead of worrying about the quality of a landshot:-(

That was my first guess but none of the pictures seemed to match quite right when I searched strictly ringneck. I did some more research however and one of the subspecies (Mallee Ringneck, subspecies barnardi) seemed to fit. It's just the banding pattern that's throwing me off a bit but I should know that there is incredible variation between guides and references and what one actually sees in the field. Thanks for your help! I appreciate the second opinion.

I would be saying an Australian Ringneck and because of your loaction it would be subspecies barnardius zonarius, which fits the description.

Amateur

And that is the Port Lincoln Parrot Perthwings so well done :D

I labeled the picture as an Australian Ringneck. Thanks so much for the help guys!

I left the subspecies out since none of us could agree on which one it might be. And I agree with Amateur, Perthwings, your photo is beautiful. I've enjoyed looking at the "best photos" topic. Amazing how some of the species are soooo similar to what I see around here.
