Oxley Common

Hey guys, so tomorrow is my birthday and I'm looking at taking the day off to go Birding YAY!

I was thinking of visiting Oxley Common and wondered if you have any tips on where to go there.

I also need to know where you park is it near the Red Shed?

What species of bird should I look out for?

Love some feedback

Cheers

I have never been to Oxley Common myself but know that Birds Qld have a brochure on thier website http://birdsqueensland.org.au/bird_places.php

I have just looked and it is 7 pages, should answer all your questions

Thanks Peter thats great info.

Wifes not wanting to go now as its too far.

If we leave early we get peak hour traffic, if we leave latter it may be too late.

May have to go to Osprey house instead.

Sorry but I cannot recall your suburb

can I suggest that you consider

1) from Dohles Rocks Rd  heading east turn left into Henry Road and look into the emplty paddock on your right - I have great pics of Chestnut-breasted Manikin, Tawny Grassbird and ??? and

2) from Dohles Rocks Road heading east turn right into Greens Rd (veer from Henry Rd) and explore the treeeline on both sides and even wander into the paddock on the right - I have good pics of Eastern Whipbird, Red-backed Fairywren and others from there and

3) I think you know about the reserve off Ogg Road where you walk down the path to the Pine River and

4) on the southern side of the Pine River is Tinchi Tamba Wetlands off Wyampa Rd

5) a circuit around Dowse Lagoon, Sandgate is always good - there is 1 birdhide and 2 viewing platforms and at east 2 mown paths to walk down to the water on the eastern side

6) it should be about lunch time so head to a cafe and

7) a nice drive up the highway will get you to Pumicestone Rd and Toorbul, check the tide time or

8) to Bribie Island Rd and on Bribie you can head to Kakadu Beach off Solander Esp or to Buckley's Hole off The Boulevarde or to Red Beach and

8) on your way home go to Morgans Seafood at Scarborough to either buy hot or take home stuff to prepare

hope this helps

Thanks heaps Peter.

I ended up going to the Oxley Common but haven't sorted through the photos yet.

I will definately be keen to try your suggestions, as I am planing to go out that way a bit to Osprey House, Dohles Rocks plus my brother lives in Griffen and my nan is in a home at Northlakes.

Might plan this one for Saturday Morning.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers
