help ID nocturnal call

Hi

trying to ID a nocturnal call ... loud, low pitched, hoarse cackling for 5-10 seconds... bit like the start of a kooka's call, but with laringitis and wheezy. heard 10pm at night, and also just before first light.  hawkesbury, nsw

thanks

Mike

I'll take a stab in the dark and say White-throated Nightjar. Or a type of frog. LJ

Some tree frogs have long drawn out calls as you describe. In my area there is litoria peronii and litoria rubella.

Yes could be a frog. In the Sydney area I regularly hear litoria pironii (Perons Tree Frog) as Greg said. Litoria Rubella is not in Sydney so you can rule that out.
