Hello,
I live in Seaview Downs, South Australia and have a Pied Carrawong in my backyard that is enjoying the grapes on our vine and it is very unusual to see this bird in South Australia as it is mostly seen in the Eastern States so very curious as to why it is in South Australia.
Natalie
Are you sure its a Pied Currawong and not a Grey Currawong?
It could be a grey currawong but its definately got bright yellow eyes and white underneath its tail but have never seen them before till this summer are they a new species to South Australia
Grey currawongs do have yellow eyes and white under their tail.
does it have white on top of the tail near the rump?
possible vagrant?
The Grey Currawong is native to your area, Natalie.
I'm interested to learn of your excellent sighting of what's probably one at Seaview Downs as I saw very little supporting habitat on my last visit to that area. But that visit was quite a few years ago so it's possible that a lot of native trees have grown since then. It's certainly a good sign & maybe the harbinger of other native bushland bird sightings to come.
