Shorebirds are so difficult to identify?

I'm not sure...Sanderling?
Taken this morning at Caloundra SE Qld.

I think they are Pacific Golden Plovers.

Thanks Peter and Tim. I did think it was the right size but the markings didn't seem to be dark enough.

here's one in non-breeding colours at Scarborough, Qld last year and one in breeding colours from Samoa in Mar '13

Thanks Peter. So because these birds breed in Alaska or Siberia the chances of seeing them in breeding colours over here is pretty slim?

I haven't seen one in Oz and was therefore pleased with the Samoa sighting.

However shorebird specialist may see them because they spend more time looking.
