Golden whistler size, with willie wagtail colours, but this birds tail was about half the length of a willie wagtail's tail. Sorry about the awful lighting. My thoughts were flycatcher, but the bill seems surprisingly broad in the 3rd pic. If so, could you let me know what type (if possible to determine from these photos). Taken in Canberra yesterday

I agree with Leaden Flycatcher. Their call can be the most reliable way to tell apart from Satin Flycatcher. The recordings in the Morcombe field guide app are really handy for ID'ing in the field, I used it to ID a Leaden flycatcher just the other day. Here is a screenshot from the app showing the bill shape..
