Honey/Insect eater ID

Hi all,

I am hoping someone here will be able to identify this bird. It has been approaching us for food and so we have been feeding it a honey eater mix. It also seems to be a juvenile because at first it would only take food that was shoved down its throat.

The closest I could find was the Little Wattle Bird, but our neighbours are not convinced. The location is southside Brisbane.

Hi kompewt. I'm not sure I'd be artificially feeding this bird. Artificial feeding can have quite disastrous consequences. For example, its parents may be nearby & might abandon this youngster.

Rather, I'd be leaving it to its own devices while doing everything I can to ensure that, in the long term, it has natural habitat to depend on for food (& nesting). That would mean planting, if you haven't already done so, some of the indigenous plants that grow or would have grown in southside Brisbane. Information about these might be available from the Bribane Council.

Your neighbours, who have apparently shown interest in the bird, might also be persuaded to sally forth & do likewise.

Nice paint job, by the way!
