Three Shorebirds

At Newcastle NSW - think I know the first two (left to right) but the rightmost im not sure about (but I will ask for all three ids as they posed together)

Think this is the same bird as # 3 taken bit later

Thanks for any help.

Edit - found another one of it as i was working through the photos from the day

Left to right, Pacific Golden Plover, Ruddy Turnstone, Great Knot.

Great Knot due to longish bill, drooped at the end, faint eyebrow, chevrons on chest. That is a nice sighting, dont think they have too many annual records in Newcastle.

Thanks for the ids logrunner - and thanks for the explanation for the great knot id.

WD - was this at Stockton Sandspit? I visited there a few months ago and had the same ID request for Great Knot, so good to get some detail on it.

You can see the old discussion with reference to the 3rd photo.

WhistlingDuck

Hi Dave - yes it was at Stockton sandspit. I was there at end of May and there was still quite a variety of birds in ones and twos and small groups. Actually a lot easier to pick out the species compared to when there are the large mixed flocks there.

I remembered your post and the great knot. I was inspired by your other photos in that post to visit Hunter wetlands a couple of times . A great place - alas no freckled duck in the wild for me - but was very pleased to see my first wandering whistling ducks there.

Given your name "Whistling Duck" I imagine it would have been something extra special! haha
