help with this one please

I saw a lot of small birds feeding in a big fruiting tree,(fig or lillypilly?).  Some were Fairy Wrens, some were small birds that I don't yet know.

Some had red on them, and all i can say is that it was a red tail and red on the head somewhere.  I have looked at red browed finches, and maybe that is correct, it didn't seem to be as very bright as the picture.  (Although definitley red).  The breast was white or light coloured and the back brown or grey.  I tried to take photos but my zoom is just not enough.

Does this sound right?  It is inner west Sydney. Thanks!

Have a look at Firetail, beautiful or diamond, could be one of those, but otherwise not sure. They are finch like birds maybe same family.

Red Brow Finches?

Yeah Red-browed Finches seem the closest match.

Juvenile red browed finches do not have red brows or red beaks, they only have red on the rump  -  that might be the reason that some appeared to be less red or less bright

Yes, thank you all, and WhistlingDuck, i think that's right, maybe juvenile, Redbrowed Finch.  Would have loved a photo, but I am glad i got to see these little birds anyway.

(Probably not a diamond or beautiful Firetail).
