So I took my mum to the place to see the Painted Buttonquail, the Noisy Pitta and the Owlet-Nightjar. They did not dissapoint with great veiws.
Noisy Pitta Portrait
Noisy Pitta "What you looking at?"
Painted Buttonquail
Crap shot but it shows both the Pitta and PBQ in the same shot. A hard photo to get.
Owlet-Nightjar
Golden Whistler
Little Black Cormorant
Last but not least. The crapiest shot of an Eastern Grass Owl you'll ever see! While it was a tick, it was also the first real attempt at a bird in flight at night. I can only get better from here.
Fantastic shots Dev and far better effort then I could hope for with that owl nightshot.
Love the Pitta and Golden Whistler portraits, great stuff
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
Great shot, I love the pitta and button quail of course, that owlet nightjar has very nice colouring. Great find with the grass owl, I'm wondering how you identified it as a grass owl as opposed to a Masked Owl?
Thank Tim and Laza
That is a great Question Tim. Apparently this bird has been in this spot for a long time and others have identified it as a Grass Owl.
Great set of birds Devster, first Pitta is a beauty.
Great work Devon, love the Golden Whistler and good work with the owl. I bet I could get a lot worse than that

Great set of shots Devon, love the Pitta portraits, I got a couple of shots of one again yesterday but nowhere near as good as those. Did it come out into the open a little or is that among the undergrowth?
Brian
Thanks guys
Brian the Pitta was still in the undergrowth, just not as dense. I only have a few photos where there isn't a stick or something accross his head or body. I was lying on my stomache and he made his way towards me which was pretty lucky.
Looks like a top spot. Great shot of the Owlet-Nightjar.
Samford Valley Qld.
Lot of great shots and great birds. I have not seen any of the first 4.
The first photo of the Pitta is a cracker. The owlet nightjar is a lovely one - very cute too.
Thanks Reflex, I'll have to take you there and show you where to get them before they dissapear.
Thanks WD. I thought you had photos of all the common speciels WD.
Opps its the first three - i have spotted one or two golden whistlers from time to time
Wow, well done Devster. What a fantastic variety of hard to get birds.
