fig bird

I haven't seen these birds sitting in the open like this, only well hidden in the trees.

Hi Elizabeth, you seem to be getting out and seeing a variety of birds around Sydney. Was this your first clear view of a male Figbird?

Thanks Sue, it was the clearest view, I have seen them in fig trees where they have been well hidden.  I have been seeing a number of great birds closer to  my backyard, in the innerwest, which has been a hopeful thing.

That does sound hopeful. I found that I also became more observant. Keep it up as it is nice to see you enjoying the birds

This is true, i have become more observant and also more able to identify birds, like Pardalotes, and WP Honeyeaters, Fantails etc that i didn't expect to see in the suburbs.

We get heaps of Figbirds here in Brissy. Sometimes I have seen them mimic other birds like a King Parrot both the in-flight call and the normal call.

When I went to Cairns, it was interesting to note that they are a different colour up there. They have a beautiful yellow front.
