About 18 months ago new neighbours moved into the property adjoining ours. So far they've shown no interest in natural habitat restoration or in encouraging wildlife. However, unlike the previous neighbours, they're not running stock on their property so I've been watching for signs of natural regeneration. I noticed the first plant of this ilk today; a solitary Ruby Saltbush, Enchylaena tomentosa the fruits of which attract quite a few bird species.
It's amazing what can happen by doing nothing, especially if you're patient & have some natural vegetation nearby. Wind, water & animals often carry seed to favourable sites where regeneration can occur.
Fingers crossed for a bit more, Woko. Perhaps they will notice the new birdlife and be pleased.
Ah, we live in hope, sue. On both counts.
Active Tree Services visited today to trim back several trees, including a South Australian Blue Gum Eucalyptus leucoxylon, which were encroaching into the no-go-for-vegetation zone near a power line. Some of the trimmings containing seed buds & cones fell into the neighbour's property so come spring it'll be interesting to see if there's any regeneration from the droppings.
