Hi,
I have four photos of a small bird that lives in the ti tree in our back paddock. I first thought it may be a female Golden Whistler then it was suggested that is a Juvenile Male Golden Whistler, and now it has been suggested that it might be a Grey Shrike Thrush.
Can someone ID this bird and let me know why it is one and not the other, please.
I really appreciate your help.
Hi Wollemi,
I think you're right; it looks like a Golden Whistler to me too (especially the really big eye for its head). My thought would be that it is an immature bird (dunno how to differentiate between immature male and female ones though). I think it's an immature one, because to me the wings looks quike rufous... Also setting it apart from the Grey Shrike Thrush. Plus no yellow or lemon wash on its undertail.
Yeah, I agree with you too, and also I've seen them lots in the Castlereagh area. It doesn't have the brown back like GST's do. I also agree that its an immature bird because of the rufous on the wings.
Interesting, I've seen some around Penrith too, but not further up the Nepean where I live.
I wonder why they're so common in the Penrith- Windsor lowlands?
