Common Koels

Well finally I have taken some photos of both the female & make Common Koel.

These guys have been on my top 5 list for some time.

I came home and heard one close so I just had to set out to find him.

When looking for him in a tree in the yard of a someone in our street I heard a "What have you lost?"

It was the owner of the yard & the Koel was in that tree.

I told him I was looking for the bird making that noise and he said to come in.

The Koel was up in the canopy and I couldn't get a full veiw of him. I took some shots while I could & then he took off.

While I was there I talked to owner & he showed me his Gouldian Finches, Diamond Doves, Peacefull Doves and Burkes Parrot.

Anyway when I was just about to go, a female common Koel flew into the tree in plain veiw.

Happy days.

Anyway, enjoy.

Great photos devster. Love your #3 portrait of the female, lovely detail.

Good work getting that shot of the male too - its very tricky getting them through all the leaves.

So the male did all that calling and then as soon as he gave up and left, the female arrived!

Nice shots. I love #3 as well, you can see the patterns so well on it.

Well done Devon!

I'm still waiting for an opportunity to photograph a female ( keep thinking Koels), I think they are the more attractive sex.  Number 3 is very clear.

You would have to be pleased with these?

Wow, lovely photos, and I love the story that goes with it too, When wandering around staring up into trees with a camera on hand, I guess we can look a bit odd to others, so it is lovely the home owner respected what you were doing and invited you in to get the photos. Thank you for sharing these great photos.

Thanks for your comments guys.

Ha ha WD, if only he stuck around a bit longer. Always the way.

Yes Reflex I was very happy with these.

Would have liked a better shot of the male but I'm sure that will come in time.

I agree the females are better looking in this species.

Wollemi, I am often take my son with me so it doesn't look so suspect. I have met a few more new people in our street now because of the camera.

Big lenses seem to attract a bit of attention cheeky

Cheers
