we love this bird.
At first we did not know much about the frogmouth and was distressed one day to find the mother closely guarding her chick.. "oh no its fallen from the tree/nest".. after much debating we moved the fledgling to higher ground for the evening only to find the next day it had moved this time with dad to another spot! little did we know they were able to clumsily fly and they were been taught the ropes on how to defend and seek food. we love it when they pretend to be a stick and close their eyes, "if i cant see you you cant see me".
we are enjoying watching them grow. a backyard delight indeed.
Lots of great photos there ... fascinating birds. Love #5 where they are snuggled together on the branch.
First photo I have seen of them on the ground, very interesting to see that.
Beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing. I adore Tawnies.
I was recently called out to rescue a Tawny Frogmouth as it as on the ground. The worried meber of public was certain something was terribly wrong with it.
As I approached the bird it quite ably flew high into a tree a resumed its stick behaviour. It was hot day and the bird had been sittng in a cool spot on the ground in the shade.
No rescue was required.
Happy Birding!

Great set of shots there, love the second one. Thanks
I think that unless the bird is in danger of being snaffled by a non-natural predator or run over by a bus it's best not to intervene. Let nature take its course.
