I went to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney last week and found the tawnies with their chicks. The last photo is taken with a "digiscope". I hadn't heard of one until I saw a man using one and he was kind enough to let me use it. A digiscope is just a camera attached to a spotting scope. Look in the bottom right corner of the second photo, I think that looks pretty funny. There was 2 parents and 2 chicks.
Great work Tim.
Wonderful birds.
Love that first shot ... great stare!
Excellent Tim, love the chicks.
I think one word to describe the expression - Gruff
Love tawny frogmouths, yet to find any that give a good photo op, have a pair that nest in a neighbours garden and am awaiting a phonecall to say they've turned up!
great shots, such fun looking birds.
thanks for sharing

What else did you see at the sydney RB gardens Tim?
I did see Buff Banded Rails there some years ago - wonderful that such birds as those and the tawny frogmouth exist in the heart of the city .... thanks to previous generations
Thanks everyone. WhistlingDuck, I tried to find the Buff Banded Rails but I didn't manage to. I was searching for the Powerful Owl that is there often but with no luck. I saw a Fan Tailed Cuckoo but that's about all I saw apart from the really common bird's.
Thanks for the info Tim ... I have to make a trip back in there one day.
Cracker shots Tim! Love the cheeky peek you've caught in that second one, so very cute. I was lucky to see my first (daytime) family yesterday too, it's just breathtaking to see these guys at anytime, but especially in daylight. Their camo feather patterns just amazed me, I could have sat there for hours watching them sleep just for that.
