Last night, one of the juvenile P_Owls perched 2 metres above the creek staring into the water.
Three times it swooped down nearly touching the surface but caught nothing. It then flew off into the darkness.
A little later we could hear the insistent trilling of a juvenile demanding to be fed.
In an adjoining backyard we could see two owls, one holding what looked like a cockatoo.
We were very surprised to see it was the two juveniles nibbling on a tea-towel. The mother was nowhere to found.
It has been interesting to see the tenderness the two young ones show for each other as we thought they might compete for food.
Cheers,
Antonia
Some interesting behaviour...I doubt they will get any nutrition for healthy growth out of a tea-towel, looks like Mum is letting them experiment in finding food perhaps?

It's amazing what can be found on some tea towels. This one may have had Christmas pudding wrapped in it.
I've seen an editied version of these pics on either solcial media or tv last night. I don't have time to dig around for where I saw them but I hope you get some credit out of the pics if they are being used like that :)
Thanks for your comments Reflex, Woko and AJS.
The mother has been feeding them magpies and cockatoos lately but we haven't seen her for a few days.
We think they are hungry and have seen the tea-towel flapping on someone's washing line and grabbed it thinking it was a cockatoo.
A little while back someone posted a photo of a P_Owl holding a pair of black and white boardshorts.
Cheers,
Antonia
PS. AJS...the ABC and a local newspaper are using one of the images with our permission.
I love your photos ChoosyPix!
Glad they got permission.
I have just purchased the Yongnuo YN-568EX II TTL Master High Speed 1/8000s Flash & have no idea how to use it
I am really keen to go out at night & photograph some owls/ possums or whatever, so I can practice using the flash.
I have a difuser for it but I'm not sure what settings to use.
If you could post some tips on the settings you use in the Tips & tricks that would be awesome.
Cheers
