Had visited Devonport, Tasmania during December 2014 and took this picture at Don Reserve. Would request the members to help me with ID. Initially I thought it was a kind of a thrush!

I think it's a juv Grey Shrike-thrush*, though i've never seen one with such heavy markings.
* note this bird is not related to true thrushes, or shrikes.

Had a similar ID in this thread a few weeks ago, although the immature Grey-Shrike Thrush was only "lightly-barred" in this post. Also note the rufous brow. Interesting I agree.

The Tasmanian birds sound a bit different to their mainland counterparts to me and belong to a different race according to Morcombe, perhaps this juvenile plumage is a quirk of the cherry isle population...
