PECTORAL SANDPIPER

Would like to identify this bird,.....thinking it is a Pectoral Sandpiper. Photographed at Werribee, Victoria

Still with this chart

http://awsassets.wwf.org.au/downloads/sp133_australian_shorebirds_identification_sheet_20nov07.pdf

That yellowish bill base (and the "abrupt end to streaks on the breast" - which doesn't seem as definitive for the positive ID) makes this one look more promising.

Fingers crossed that this one is actually a Pectoral Sandpiper, and not another sharpie!

Dave, Sydney.

IMO, definitely a Pectoral Sandpiper. Besides the points already mentioned by Dave, the fact that the dark breast demarcation points down in the middle also supports Pectoral over Sharpie

Thanks to you both. I put a general reply on each of the previous Werribee ones addressed to each of you. Now I am wondering whether hitting 'reply' at the bottom just goes to the person that I hit that button on or whether it comes up so that each of you can see..as on mine. If this is the case sorry but I did reply to all of you in a general comment.    Thanks to the two of you for the reply on this one....pleased I can confidently add Pectoral Sandpiper to my list. I do have those charts, I think Owl sent them to me and they are a great help.    Thanks again   Robert
