Crested Shrike and others

First dry day in the Blue Mountains for ages so I had to take the opportunity while it lasted. Consequently, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing 2 Crested Shrike-tit's on the weekend, up close. Magnificient birds.

Also finally caught a Scrubwren in the open and a Bassian Thrush, which was sitting off the ground, in a shrub - a rare sight. wink

One of the good things about Monday's is that quite often people have been out and about on the week-ends and we end with threads like this. Just love that Crested Shrike-Tit!

Great set of photos. You just have to love the beak on the Shrike Tit!.

Have only seen one Bassian Thrush and that was in the Grampians while doing a rigging course.

Instructor was giving us a morning brief when a BS hopped out of the bushes and just stood there in front

of me for about 20 seconds in perfect early morning light. My camera was in the car only five metres away

but I couldn't interrupt the class to get to it. Much cursing afterwards smiley

Instructor was, shall we say, "authoritarian "smiley

Thanks Rick and Reflex.

Sad story Rick, maybe next time you should forget this "authoritarian" business - birds come first! wink

I'm not surprised Peter, it's an unusual angle. Not at all helpful for ID! It happens to be the same White-browed Scrubwren as in the previous photo's.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I've heard Crested Shrike's enough times but only seen them once, hanging high in the canopy. This time I got a proper look, a bird I will not forget.
