Official name being the Eastern Reef Egret, although in this case Grumpy Reef Egret is more accurate

Well, it seems to be in breeding plumage and the only other birds around were a bunch of Cormorants. - so, no likely breeding partners

I think you have hit the nail on the head, fair and square there Vic. Those bills of theirs get a hard time, they are in salt water half of the time and then in the baking sun the other half. The poor old chap just needs a girlfriend and some Olay moisturiser for his bill.
