Late March this year I walked into a little clearing in the forest at my local and turned my head to be shocked that this pacific baza was watching me, almost like he was trying to be a statue and be un noticed. Well i pretended i was un aware of it's presence and got close enough for some decent photo's, could have gone closer but it was on a branch a few metres above me and that would mean he could poo on me but more importantly i would also get a bad angle shot.
Anyway he did take off when i got too close and i snapped a few of him in flight and managed a few decent ones considering i had the wrong camera settings for BIF and the sun was on the wrong side. Then all the sudden after a few calls there were maybe 6-7 of them high circling around me but were too high up for any great shots
Nice photos Vas.
Same thing happened to me once, I was walking along and bam there he was staring at me.
I was still a noob at photography so my photos were no where near as nice as yours.
He flew off into the bush and I follwed but couldn't find him, then all of a sudden he flew off from right above me and I nearly had to change my shorts
Thanks for sharing.
I have since that day programmed my camera to be ready for BIF with the push of a custom Function button/s which automaically applies certain settings to my camera. Now just to find these Baza's again

Thats a good Iidea I should learn to do that.
Guaranteed they will see you long before you see them.
Nice work vas, great detail in the first image.Looks like he knows your there.
Great work vas ... beautiful looking birds.
I had a group of three once in the trees above me in Lane Cove NP .
Your first one looks like a young one from last year. Up to 2013 my friend had a pair nesting in his yard in Glenbrook. Then last year they chose to abandon nesting due to heavy winds at the start of the season. Also a pair nested outside the shopping center at Emu Plains in 2013, but not last year.
Where is your local? Mulgoa Nature Reserve? I've lived near Castlereagh for almost 14 years, but never checked that spot out.
Yes Mulgoa Nature Reserve. It's not very big but does have a few species of birds.
