Nurragingy Reserve

Went to Nurragingy Reserve which is a narrow strip of parkland in western sydney with eastern creek flowing through it. Not a great day for photography but i was pleased to sight three different species of raptor in an area surrounded by suburbia - hence the birds on wires. All the raptor shots are heavily cropped.

Got my best photos to date of a white necked heron that allowed me to get quite close. Also saw chestnut mannikins, doubled barred finches, red rumped parrots, white plumed honey eater, cisticolas and straw necked ibis.

Great shots. The white-necked heron would be a new one for me.

That's a good collection of birds WD and I can see that the conditions weren't good for photography. Good light makes all the difference in the world. The Brown Goshawk would have been a first for me.

I have found herons to be quite unpredictable. Some bolt the instant they see you and some will stand still and stare back at you watching what you do. These are the ones that allow you to take photographs but are usually on the verge of taking off and you have to be ever so careful around them.

Wonderful collection WD!  Love your composition in your first Heron shot, with the stream meandering away into the background, lovely!

Nice group of birds WD, particularly like the stare of the Kite and Goshawk.
