Gannet Fishing

Went to Caloundra (Sunshine Coast QLD) on the long weekend and got my first shots of Austrasian Gannets. This was a young one fishing but he was quite good at fishing for gar. Only once did I see him come up empty beaked.

Excellent series of shots! I love the one with the fish in it's beak and the second one with background out of focus.

Thanks so much for the kind comments guys.

I took soo many photos of the gannet it was hard to decide which to post.

I also got some shots of Osprey, Whistling & Brahminy Kites as well as an osprey chasing off a White Bellied Sea Eagle twice its size.

I'll try to post them over the weekend.

Thanks again for looking.

Cheers

That second shot he looks commited.  The bent wings ready to retract on impact I think is a cracker.

To think they then swim - fly around underwater briefly to get the target if reuired is amazing.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing

Thanks Jason.

He was going for gar which are a surface fish, so pretty sure he would have gotten that on impact.

Still pretty amazing to think it's swimming underwater with a fish in its gob.

Yes dmp it was a tick for me, which are hard to get now as I have nearly exhausted birds in my area.
