Unique sound at 5AM at 20km away from CBD

Help me locate this bird - it makes this unusual sounds at 5am in the morning in city suburbs. Your help is greatly appreciated, this mystery bird is driving my curiosity.

I managed to take a photo using flash - not very clear.

Thank you!

I have not listened to the call but your pic looks like a Pied Currawong. They start to call early in the morning.

I agree with Rawshorty from the pic. It's always good to put the location of where you saw the bird so we can narrow down any possibilities.

Hi sikocan. I listened to the audio file and it is definitely a Pied Currawong.

I'm at Tenterfield, NSW. (Formerly known as "Hyperbirds".)

Thank you all for this information and glad to know there are people out there dedicating their time for this information.

It was at Merrylands West NSW

It seems different areas in locality have different sounds.

Wow, very different sound to Currawongs up here in Brissie!

Too much white for me on the bird to say it's a Currawong. Didn't listen, but looks like a Magpie to me?

Araminta, magpies don't have the white band at the tip of the tail. Definitely a currawong. Currawongs are also much more likely to roam around for a while after dark (or get up early, for that matter)
