Friends of mine in Mayfield NSW 2304 snapped this little guy, any idea who he is? I feel like it's some type of Boobook Owl, what do you think?

I would agree with you on the Boobook part, but that's not much help :P I would say Southern Boobook, but i'm not very good at telling the difference :) Just wait until someone more expirienced can put a word in :)
Yes, it is a Southern Boobook. They are the only type of boobook's in Australia
The fact it's streaked and brown makes it a Southern Boobook. You didn't mention size, but boobooks are quite small when roosting during the day.
