Went for a walk in my local Park. I sat and watched the female Eurasian Coot building her nest on a small island in the lake. When suddenly she jumped off the nest .Have a look what happened next. .....then she hopped back on the nest and worked some more on it.
Very sweet, isn't the one with the wider frontal shield the male, is that how you tell the difference?

The male is also larger, as you can clearly see in the photos.
Here is np boubt, the male is mostly the one on top.

Nice series of shots Araminta. Yep, the male does look like he's drowning her. Good thing it only takes a few seconds.
It took a lot longer than I thought.But they are ducks and used to have their heads under water.
