Good evening,
I've just put a feeder up for the first time and I'm attempting to ID some of the birds. Some I'm having luck using photos online, but a couple I'm not having any luck. I'm attempting to identify what kind of bird is on the left. I believe the one on the right is a female cardinal (i think?). I keep seeing birds similar to the one on the left, but with different colors such as a redish color one (on it's head mostly). I've been told it's maybe a finch and that they can come in different colors. Thanks for your help!
John
Here is the second bird I'm attempting to ID. I've had the feeder up a couple of weeks now, and this is the first time I've seen this bird. A couple of big blue jays ran it off (one was literally chasing it) and it never came back. Thanks again! I hope to see even more varieties.
Thanks,
John
maybe the last is some kind of blackbird or cowbird.
Hi John, I can't help you with your birds, but this is an Australian website, so some of us won't know American birds! I'm really sorry for not being able to help :) good luck! The

Hello John and welcome to Australia, well at least to this Australian website.
Bird #1 - is a female Northern Cardinal, and yes the male is orange/red, pics attached
Bird #2 - I was going to suggest female Purple Finch but then looked at my 'National Geogrpahic Complete Birds of North America' and it says that they do not get to Florida
Bird #3 - I was going to suggest male Rusty Blackbird but then looked etc etc
My best advice is to refer you to the 'Help me identify a bird' forum on Whatbird.com - http://www.whatbird.com/forum/index.php?/forum/1003-birding/ - this forum was extremely helpful

maybe the last is a Shiny Cowbird?
