I haven't seen that bird before and am from a totally different area, but would suggest having a look at shrike-thrush. Most probably little or sandstone in your area

Hmm... One thing I have noticed is that it looks really similar to the Nth QLD race of little shrike-thrush, but not so much the NT one (I was looking at the QLD picture in my field guide when I suggested it)
However, the impression of the bird is a shrike-thrush and little would be the best match. One alternative you may like to have a look at is the somewhat similar whistler group. Of the whistlers, a female or juvenile Rufous whistler would be the most promising

found this pic that I ided as juvenile LSt from same Mar '13 photo session but 30 mins later with neck & breast streaking; white lores, eyebrow & throat already apparent so I do not believe that subject bird is LSt

Thanks very much - think you're right. A Little Shrike-thrush

it does not appear to have enough colour for Little Shrike-thrush, attached pic of LSt from Darwin NT in Mar '13
however I cannot offer an alternative, other than a juvenile

Thanks very much everyone. Am still leaning towards Little Shrike-thrush - it does seem fairly similar to Pacman's photo.
