Rainbow Bee-eaters on Mid North Coast NSW

Just spent few days observing Bee-eaters nesting at the bank of Korogoro creek in Hat Head. Not as many as last year but still plenty.

Unique shots .... really show up the beautiful colours of these birds. Great work.

I didnt know they nested in the ground ..... reading up on them I found those nests have tunnels nearly a metre long!

 WD ..I only found that out last year. That's why they lose all their tail feathers from wearing them out in the tunnels going back and forth with nesting material and then food for the chicks. They even come back to the same spot each year to nest again.

Thank you, The nests are located all along the creek bank facing the quiet street. I just park observe and photograph from the car.
